Confirm^® Service

Confirm is a service from the United States Postal Service that uses a PLANET™ barcode to electronically track First-Class Mail^® and Standard Mail™ letter-size and flat-size items.

To use Confirm, you must place a POSTNET and a PLANET barcode on your outgoing or reply mailpieces. Postal Service™ sorting equipment reads both barcodes and makes them available to a centralized network server. You then receive data electronically and learn when outgoing mail is nearing delivery or when reply mail is on its way to you.

Confirm offers two forms of service: Destination and Origin. Destination (outgoing) Confirm notifies you when outgoing mail is about to be delivered. Origin (incoming) Confirm notifies you when a customer is returning a mailpiece - an electronic version of "The check's in the mail."

Confirm is built on the PLANET Code, a 12- or 14-digit barcode:

• The first 2 digits represent the service you want: Destination Confirm or Origin Confirm.
• The next 9 or 11 digits (for Destination Confirm) help identify your company and the mailer.
• The next 9 or 11 digits (for Origin Confirm) help identify the mail piece and mailer.
• The 12th digit is a check-sum digit that helps the Postal Service detects errors.
